Mobile Artist in Residence Commission, at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park

Deadline for applications: noon 17 December 2012

The London Legacy Development Corporation is pleased to announce one of its first arts and culture opportunities to create new work in and around the future Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Please see the link to the brief below for the ‘Mobile Artist in Residence’ project to start in February 2013.  The opportunity is to design and build a mobile artist studio; undertake a mobile residency from the studio in east London with a programme of public activities; and support a mentorship programme for young people which will be developed and run by an education partner.

The Legacy Corporation is inviting proposals from a wide variety of artists (or groups of artists), curators and arts organisations throughout the UK in all art forms, to develop this exciting project with us and an external educational partner who will be appointed in early 2013.

The project will run for a period of 18 months from February 2013 to September 2014.

The total project budget is £125,000 including VAT, to cover all fees, materials, expenses, evaluation, insurances and VAT (except the fee for the education partner).

The Legacy Corporation invites you to submit a proposal no more than 8 pages long through the website, detailing the following elements:

  1. To create an recognisable and visually exciting mobile structure which will function as an artist’s studio, and move through the surrounding boroughs (Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest) and the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park from summer 2013 to summer 2014 (locations, route and frequency to be proposed by you).
  2. To use the studio as a base for a residency, and create new work relating to east London.
  3. To develop and host a public programme of events or activities from the studio with a range of audiences that relates to your work, or to the surrounding area.
  4. To support a mentorship scheme with young people (ages 16 – 25), which will be developed and run by an external educational partner.
