Hidden Art Awards 2006 – Thursday December 14
The third Annual Hidden Art Awards ceremony, to mark the achievements of Hidden Art members, took place on Thursday 14 December at Rich Mix on Bethnal Green Road.
Also this year, shortlisted members had the option of taking part in a small exhibition that was held at the event.
Most Active Member – A designer-maker who has made the most of their membership by actively participating in Hidden Art initiatives – Winner: Junior Phipps.
Most Outstanding New Member to Join Hidden Art – A newly joined designer-maker who has made a positive impact with Hidden Art, through effort, participation and achievement – Winner: Jon Lane-Smith.
Best Commission / Business Deal – A designer-maker who has undertaken a high-profile commission or attained a great deal for their work – Winner: Frank.
Best Press Profile – A designer-maker who has attracted a lot of press attention, or received outstanding press coverage of their work, product or design – Winner: Ryan Frank.
Best Appearance at a Trade Show / Exhibition – An appearance at a trade show or exhibition, with this award based on success, distinction or popularity – Winner: Scene.
Favourite Product on the Hidden Art E-Shop – This award will be presented for the most popular product on the Hidden Art E-shop, as favoured by customer sales and public opinion – Winner: Hemal Patel’s Ooob the Doorstop..
Dedicated Supporter of Hidden Art– Awarded to the individual or company who have been of the greatest assistance to Hidden Art – Joint Winners: UBS Investment Bank and City Fringe Partnership.
Most Active Associate or Pool of Specialists Member Involved in Hidden Art – the associate or pool of specialist member that has made the most of their involvement with Hidden Art, by providing support for members and the whole company – Winner: Femke Teunen.
Most Sustainable Product – This award is for the designer-maker that has produced a sustainable or environmentally friendly product – Winner: Ryan Frank’s Inkuku Chair.
Most Influential / Inspiring Hidden Art Cornwall Member– A Hidden Art Cornwall designer-maker who has designed or makes inspiring products, or who has established a long-lasting, inspirational or successful business or business model – Winner: Jethro Macey.
Most Inspiring British Company/Designer – An award for any inspiring British designer or company as voted by Hidden Art members – Winner: Established & Sons.
E-Shop Awards – Three special E-shop Awards were also handed out.
The Selection Panel consists of: William Knight – Festival Manager, London Design Festival; Alison Coward – Membership Manager, Contemporary Applied Arts; Matthew Lewis – Business Development Manager, Metropolitan Works; Barbara Chandler – Journalist, Homes & Property in The Evening Standard and Alice Brown – 100% Design.
