Sew Along with Peter Gibson on ZOOM

We are delighted to announce that Peter Gibson will be offering an online embroidery workshop “Sew Along” over 4 weeks, every Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 – 3pm starting next Tuesday 9th June. Many of you will remember Peter’s incredible exibition at Fabrications last October of his hand embroidered jackets or “Artwear” created over 50 years (or click on the photo above to see more examples of Peter’s work)

Peter and his wife Hanelle will guide you through a refelection of “What makes you Tick?” to realise your own creative expression and how to translate your thoughts and ideas into text and symbols through drawing. These drawings will become the starting point for your own hand embroidery designs, mark making or textures. You will also learn the techniques that Peter uses in his own embroidery work and decorate a denim tote bag or envelope style cushion.

Course Cost: £25 + Kit £12 (which will be posted to you in advance of the course, including everything you need (pre hemmed denim, chalk pencil, embroidery needles, 4 x anchor silks)  More Information including a film from Peter’s exhibition and HOW TO BOOK! (you can also book directly with us and avoid the online booking fee) HERE

ALL FACE 2 FACE CLASSES ARE CURRENTLY POSTPONED until there is more advice available and what safe guards we will need to implement. Once that is clear we will put up more dates for our classes and be getting in touch directly with all of you that have booked and paid already to re schedule your booking (at your convenience) If you would like to discuss this with us, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

WE ARE PLANNING TO RE OPEN THE SHOP FROM THURSDAY 18th JUNE initially for 3 days a week – Friday, Saturday & Sunday 11am – 5:30pm. As much of what we sell is very tactile we would like to encourage if possible to text or call Barley in advance on 07958 424 808 to organise what supplies you are looking for. I can take orders over the phone, send pictures of stock, do video calls and then arrange collection. If you would like items delivered to you, that can also be organised on foot (if local) or via the post.

WASH N WEAR MASKS – Barley has also been sewing cotton face coverings since March for friends, family, neighbours, volunteers. She has a selection (adults and children) with 2 layers of cotton fabric and cotton/bamboo wadding in between which are now available for sale (2 for £10) REPLY TO THIS E-MAIL OR TEXT BARLEY on 07958 424 808 if you are interested.

Last week Barley hosted her first ever Instagram *Live* workshop on how to sew your own mask (2 styles) over on Yodomo’s Instagram (and hopefully she can share later to Fabrications I.G) It seemed to go quite well! she is offering another activity THIS FRIDAY 5th June at 4pm as part of Yodomo’s Lock Down “Crafting Hour” “Make your own recycled rosettes” is a fun activity for all ages, no sewing experience needed and is an ideal activity to use up textile odds and ends from around the home including fabric scraps, trims, buttons.

Although Barley is unable to offer face to face classes at the moment she does have have some of her most popluar classes available online via the creative platform Yodomo . The new series of the Great British Sewing Bee is inspiring many people to start learning to sew.

– Learn how to use a sewing machine (equivalent to my “Beginners Sewing 1”)

– Learn to sew a cushion cover & Sew a reversible tote bag (equivalent to her “Creative Making on the sewing machine” – afternoon session to Beginners Sewing 1)

– Repair your denim with sashiko-style stitching & Make an easy sashiko style embroidered patch (elements from her “Introduction to hand sewing repairs”)

There is a FREE mini tutorial on how to Thread your sewing machine for those of you needing a little refresher and you can get a flavour of the quality of Yodomo’s content making (which I’m very happy with) in my Meet the Maker film.

As a gesture of goodwill to the Fabrications community, Yodomo are currently offering 50% discount on my online classes by using the code: FABRICATIONS50

I know that our fortnightly Thursday Craft Club is a welcomed opportunity to socialise, get tips and advise on completing your craft projects amongst our community. There are many of you who attend regularly and we have formed some strong bonds. I have set up a Whatts App Group which has been working well as a means to keep in contact, inspire and uplift each other with our makes. I have also been offering some technical advice and support if you are stuck in some way with a craft project or feeling de-motivated. If you are interested to join please send me your mobile number and I will add you to the group.
