Review 12 December 2018
by Dieneke Ferguson
It was great to visit the first Maggie’s Barts Christmas Fayre (on the Thursday 6th December and Friday 7 December) in the stunning surroundings of the brand new Maggie’s Barts Centre, which was designed by architect Steven Hall. The gifts at the Christmas Fayre were exquisite and included a wide range of products from ceramics, jewellery, homeware and glass. The selection was curated and hand-picked from a range of designers by curators Victoria Thornton and Michelle Oberdieck, both designers themselves.
I loved the hats from Martina Bohn
Paintings by Helen Brough inspired by the urban, botanical, sea and landscapes
It was also great to see glass designer Aline Johnson who in the past has exhibited with Hidden Art.
There were also bags and travel wallets from Justin Oh, Jewellery from Tania Clarke Hall, Sally van der Pump and Corinne Hamak, knitwear from Susie Bonomini and Henrietta Park and woven textiles from Sally Weatherill.
Over the two days the Centre will transform into a beautiful Christmas market with mince pies, milled wine, Christmas gifts, a raffle and lots of festive spirit!
Three designers selling work through the Hidden Art E-Shop have also donated pieces for the raffle. They are:
The more you shop the more money goes towards supporting people with Cancer at Maggie’s Barts. Hidden Art will also be donating a percentage of their Christmas sales to Maggies Barts to help fund tea and coffee for Maggie’s patients. In addition designers Baldy and the Fidget , Jonna Saarinen, Lesley McShea and Thelermont Hupton who all sell through the Hidden Art E-Shop will also donate some of the sales made through the Hidden Art E-Shop.
Those attending the Fayre were also able to see Life, a photographic exhibition by Zoe Law which was launched in 2017 to celebrate Maggie’s 21 birthday. Zoe took pictures of 21 people living with cancer. All of those who took part have been supported by Maggie’s. It included Malcolm Reid who also was an invitee with Prince Charles for High Tea on his birthday as one of the 70 guests that were 70 years .
