The £7000 budget they secured will help increase production and respond to raising demands from shops and stockists alike. The campaign ended July 1st 2015 and all backers have been rewarded with beautiful Suitcase Susie products at bargain prices.
Set up by designer Michelle Kent, Suitcase Susie offers a range of fine bone china sets and home textiles. Her work is a reflection of the striking scenery and unique customs she has come across travelling the world. In Michelle’s work Maori symbols intersect with Malaysian patterns and everyday scenes from the life of Rajasthan. All products are British-made and lovingly hand-finished to very high standards.
Suitcase Susie has had significant press coverage and their products have been featured in the Evening Standard Homes & Property supplement, Living Etc, Heart Home online magazine and a number of blogs.
Michelle’s intricate designs, eye-catching patterns and beautiful flow of colour also caught the attention of the Royal Academy of Arts. Her Paper Kite design was selected by the Academy in their Rated Open Call for Designers 2014.
So far Michelle has managed to fund her business on her own. Since her products are hand-finished and not mass-produced in a factory line, it has become increasingly difficult to meet the 100-piece per item minimum quantities shops are after. Additionally, diversifying her product range to include a mix of china and textiles will offer new business opportunities.
With your help, Suitcase Susie can increase the range of home textiles to include tea towels, oven gloves and aprons as well as put more of the china pieces into production. Then they will be able to supply more shops and ultimately achieve regular orders that exceed the manufacturers’ minimums.
