If you’re as excited as we are about the upcoming Clerkenwell Design Week from May 22nd until May 24th, then you’ll probably love the selection of events Craft Central has prepared.
To kick it off are several Craft it Yourself (CIY) events where you can try your hand at throwing a clay pot, printmaking, or knitting. If you can’t make these dates, there will also be an opportunity to join similar events in June. For more information and booking information, click here.
We’re particularly excited about the Rooftop Talk on Clerkenwell History, where you have the chance to learn more about the area’s rich history from the perspective of a designer maker, Jane Young; also a London historian. Get some insight into how the area has gradually transformed into a design district while enjoying a fantastic view of the city. For more information and booking details, click here. But be quick, there are only a few paces remaining!
In partnership with Creative Clerkenwell, Craft Council is also allowing you the opportunity to sneak a peek into the studio life of their Designers in Residence. Their window space in St John’s Square will be transformed into an active studio space, where you will be able to watch Craft Central’s designer makers while they create a range of items.
(Venue: Craft Central 33-35 St John’s Square, London EC1M 4DS)
From the 22nd until the 27th of May, the Showcase Gallery in St John’s Square will be dedicated to handmade interior products, including some of the colourful design by Design K (whose products are also available through us here!), along with a host of other exciting UK based designers.
Lastly, if you can’t make any of the weekday events, you still have the opportunity to immerse yourself in craft in the Made in Clerkenwell: Summer Open Studios from the 24th until the 27th of May. Here, Craft Central will let you in to their two Victorian buildings for a ‘behind the scenes’ experience of the workshops of their designers. Mingle with the makers and browse through original products by over 90 UK designers. This is a unique chance to see exactly where your products come from! For more information check their website.
