Direct access to East London designers
25-26 November and 2-3 December 2000
Hidden Art, Britain’s leading open studios event will be taking place on 25-26 November and 2-3 December. It offers the public the unique opportunity to buy or commission direct from over 250 designer-makers and artists showing in clusters of venues across East London.
As well as being a showcase for established designers (such as Columbia Glassworks, EllaDoran, Kerry Jameson and Zoë Hope), Hidden Art is also a major platform for exciting new design talent such as product designers bdm design and Crispin and Gemma Furniture Design. Visitors to the event can to do their own talent spotting and buy from new designers before they hit the headlines. Whether you want to discover the hottest new talent or revisit the studio of a Hidden Art favourite, this is the pre-Christmas event to visit.
Visitors can purchase work from a wealth of designers and artists with work ranging from furniture, jewellery and ceramics to glass, lighting and wallpaper. Prices range from 20p to £750, 000. To make shopping even easier Hidden Art now covers six main ‘cluster’ areas so there is always a concentration of studios and venues to visit over the two weekends. While the addition of narrow boats to ferry people between clusters, means visitors can now sightsee while they shop!
In addition to the open studios Hidden Art is coordinating three selected shows in conjunction with The Geffrye Museum (exhibition of interior products), Clerkenwell Green Association (exhibition of jewellery and fashion) and the Prince’s Foundation (exhibition of work from the Hidden Art School’s Project). There are also special exhibitions under the new Green Bridge at Mile End Park and in a designer show flat at the new easteight8 development in Hackney. This is a perfect opportunity for local designers and artists of all ages, to show in five of the newest and most exciting spaces in East London.
